U.S. Senate Republican Whip Jon Kyl made the following statement today regarding ongoing negotiations at the United Nations to draft a treaty implementing international standards for importing and exporting conventional weapons:
"Like many citizens, I remain concerned about ongoing efforts at the United Nations to establish "common international standards' to regulate conventional firearms. Such standards could infringe on the constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans and could also inhibit U.S. arms sales to our allies around the world. I urge the administration to abandon any support of this effort and focus on ways to increase America's ability to assist partners abroad rather than undermining constitutional protections at home."
